The Pope of Buddhism His Holiness Dorje Chang Buddha III

The conferment of the Pope of Buddhism to His Holiness Dorje Chang Buddha III originated in January 2018 when the World Peace Prize Awarding Council and World Peace Prize Religious Leaders Title Awarding Council passed the resolution to confer to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III the title of Pope of Buddhism, the highest leader of Buddhism in this world. However, His Holiness the Buddha refused to accept the conferment.

For the sake of propagating Buddha Dharma and benefitting living beings, the World Buddhism Association Headquarters took the liberty to accept the conferment decree and the Pope of Buddhism Scepter. When the World Buddhism Association Headquarters respectfully presented the Pope of Buddhism Scepter and conferment decree to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, His Holiness the Buddha III said: “I see that on top of this Scepter is the seated Shakyamuni Buddha, we should be respectful to Namo Shakyamuni Buddha.” His Holiness the Buddha then raised the Scepter above His head and made a symbolic closed palm gesture with one hand to express His respects. However, H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III also expressed that He is just a humble cultivator and resolutely would not accept such a conferment. Hence, His Holiness the Buddha immediately returned the conferment decree and the Pope of Buddhism Scepter to the two Councils.

On September 23, 2020, the World Peace Prize Awarding Council and World Peace Prize Religious Leaders Title Awarding Council passed an ultimate joint resolution, determining that the return of the Pope of Buddhism Scepter and conferment decree by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III was not effectible. On September 24, the joint Chair of the World Peace Prize Awarding Council and World Peace Prize Religious Leaders Title Awarding Council Suzi Leggett made the ultimate announcement at the Holy Miracles Temple of the World Buddhism Association Headquarters: “Over the past several decades, the World Peace Prize Awarding Council has presented the World Peace Prize to presidents, spiritual leaders, and prime ministers of many nations, including President Ronald Reagan, Hon. Mahatma Gandhi, and H.E. Yitzhak Rabin. There has never been a precedence of an award being retracted or returned. All determinations made and implemented by our Councils are very solemn, serious, and absolutely cannot be changed. The return of the Pope of Buddhism Scepter and conferment decree by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III is deemed not effectible. The title, status, and authority of the Pope of Buddhism belong only to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, and cannot be exercised by anyone else.” Chair Leggett once again requested that the World Buddhism Association Headquarters accept and present to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III the Pope of Buddhism Scepter and conferment decree that His Holiness the Buddha previously returned.

Representing the World Buddhism Association Headquarters, Venerable Mozhi Rinpoche accepted the conferment decree and Pope of Buddhism Scepter. He said during his speech, “The World Buddhism Association Headquarters considers that the decision made by the two Councils is remarkably proper and sagacious.

“Ever since Namo Shakyamuni Buddha entered parinirvāṇa, there has not been a supreme leader who has the authority to guide all Buddhists the same way that the Buddha did. However, the authoritative position of the Pope of Buddhism certainly is not a role that a leader of a single Buddhist sect would have the attributes to fulfill; rather, the Pope must be a leader who has authority over the entirety of Buddhism, namely, a Buddha.

“Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III holds the perfect teachings of Buddhism and meets the criteria used by all Buddhist sects to recognize a Buddha. His inherent nature is in accord with that of a Buddha. His unsurpassed, complete, and perfect enlightenment is in accord with that of a Buddha. Just based on the accomplishment of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III in Lifting the Pestle onto the Platform, surpassing His own base weight standard by 59 levels, no one else can possibly reach such a record.

“The state of virtue of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III is that of a Buddha. His Holiness the Buddha has perfect mastery of Exoteric and Esoteric Buddhism, perfect accomplishments in the Five Vidyas, and so forth, all of which accord with the unsurpassed, complete, and perfect enlightenment of a Buddha.

“In more than 2,000 years, there has not been a Buddhist Holy Guru in this world who possesses the same Buddha level qualities. Just by the facts that H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III vowed and carries out the vow to benefit living beings purely on a voluntary basis and does not accept any offerings throughout His entire life, and that He possesses perfect wisdom and unimpeded accomplishments, no other Holy Guru can be of comparison. Only Namo H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III can take on this immensely noble, holy, and heavy responsibility of the Pope of Buddhism, to properly guide Buddhists onto the correct path of learning Buddhism.

“Therefore, on behalf of Buddhists, the World Buddhism Association Headquarters thanks the World Peace Prize Awarding Council and the World Peace Prize Religious Leaders Title Awarding Council for having made the ultimate decision.”

H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III is selfless and noble, and the first person in Buddhism to possess substantive holy realization power of a Buddha and perfectly flawless accomplishments at the pinnacle of the Five Vidyas. These are the qualities that no other eminent Buddhist monastic or virtuous person in this world has so perfectly attained. It is naturally a matter of course that H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III is the veritable Pope of Buddhism.

Exhibition of Master Wan Ko Yee’s Amazing Achievement in the Form of World-Class Treasures (February 17-23, 2006 ASIAN JOURNAL)

The Explanation of the Buddha’s Title – “H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III”

On April 3, 2008, a solemn and dignified first-publishing ceremony of a fact-recording book entitled H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, which published jointly by the World Buddhism Publishing LLC and the World Dharma Voice, Inc., was held at the Library of the Congress of the United States. The book was also formally accepted into the collection of the Library of the Congress of the United States. Only since that time, did people in the world know that Master Wan Ko Yee, who had been broadly respected by the great masses and who had also been known as Great Dharma King Yangwo Yeshe Norbu, had been recognized by the world’s leaders, regent dharma kings, and great rinpoches of Buddhism through official documents as the third incarnation of Dorje Chang Buddha, who is the primordial Sambhogakaya Buddha of the universe. The Buddha’s name is H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Since then, people began to address His Holiness the Buddha by “Namo Dorje Chang Buddha III.” This is similar to the situation that Sakyamuni Buddha’s name was Prince Siddhartha Gotama before attaining Buddhahood. However, after Sakyamuni Buddha had attained Buddhahood, His title changed to “Namo Sakyamuni Buddha.” That is why we now address His Holiness the Buddha as “H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.”

In particular, on December 12, 2012, the Senate Resolution No. 614 of the United States Congress officially used “His Holiness” in the name addressing Dorje Chang Buddha III (That is to say, “H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.”) Since then, the title and status of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III has been definitive by nature. And, as a matter of fact, “Dorje Chang Buddha III” is a name used legally in governmental and official legislative documents. Therefore, the previously used respected name and titles such as “Wan Ko Yee,” Great Master, and Great Dharma King no longer exist.

However, the news below was published before the Buddha’s title of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III was publicly announced. At that time, people did not know about the true status of His Holiness the Buddha. Therefore, to respect the true history, we still kept the names used before the title of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III was legitimately determined in republishing this news. However, all must clearly know that the only legitimate name of His Holiness the Buddha is H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and all other names used before the legitimate determination no longer exist.

Now you can see this mysterious and wondrous art. It is praised as “Treasures from Heaven.” This exhibit displays superb, extraordinary art, profound knowledge, holy virtue and more from another realm. Admission is free.

A rare exhibit of Master Wan Ko Yee’s world-class art, literary accomplishments, and innovations hold from February 5 through 27, 2006 at 1822 Eddy Street, San Francisco, California.

The exhibition showcases more than 200 pieces of the Master’s artwork in 18 categories. This represents only a small portion of Master Wan Ko Yee’s outstanding accomplishments. The exhibition features Yun sculptures, Chinese paintings, western paintings, art frames, jade plates, three-dimensional pictures, calligraphy, poetry, and literature, along with the latest application of the master’s designs in ceramic, enamel, glass, and other mediums for use in beautifying the domestic and work environment. These tiles, wall hangings, transparent panels, etc. are unbelievably beautiful and highly original, surpassing the elegance of materials found in the Louvre Museum in Paris or the luxury hotels of Las Vegas. These are suitable for the most elegant homes, up-scale restaurants, fashionable hotels, sophisticated offices, or other places to create a noble and enhanced quality of life. Master Yee wants to make his enlightened view of a world of incredible beauty available to everyone.

Master Wan Ko Yee, who currently resides in the United States, is known as Dharma King Yangwo Yisinubu Wan Ko. Over 2,000 Buddhist leaders from thirty three countries and 416 organizations, recognized Master Yee as a Dharma King and “Authentic Buddhism Master.” it is difficult to find another person in this world who has succeeded in gaining the high state of virtue and realization that Maser Yee has attained. It is precisely due to his unfathomable Buddha-dharma realization that the Master has acquired erudition and penetrating understanding of the laws that govern the growth and change of everything in the universe. He has thereby attained the highest achievements in various fields, such as religion, literature, philosophy, painting, calligraphy, sculpture, and application of color. No one in history can match such achievements.

He is a master of art of outstanding international fame. The Chinese paintings of Master Wan Ko Yee were sold at auction at the highest prices for paintings by any living artist in Southeast Asia, going for over two million US dollars each. With the appearance of Yun Sculpture, created by the Master for humanity, all splendid pearls, jades, and gemstones become pale in comparison, like the stars in the sky being outshined by a clear moon. The Yun sculpture created by the Master is an art with indescribable beauty and appears in the world for the first time. Its beauty surpasses that of any natural pearls, jades or precious gemstones. No precious stone in this world can compare with the mystery and resplendence of Yun sculptures. Some of you might consider this an overstatement, but when you see the beautiful and wondrous artwork, you will be surprised, enchanted, and see that this is not an exaggeration.

The organization of American States, which represents 34 countries, sponsored a special exhibition featuring part of Master Wan Ko Yee’s work for ambassadors and dignitaries. The artwork was recognized by all as a precious treasure from heaven. The Master is also the only artist awarded the position of “Fellow” by the Royal Academy of Arts in the London in the Academy’s over two hundred year history. As you can see, this is not an ordinary artist, nor is this an ordinary exhibition.

The frames and jade-like plates created by Master Wan Ko Yee can be described as “embodying the essence of Nature yet surpassing the craftsmanship of Nature.” The frames of the Master cannot be limited to the concept of frames. They also are a particular kind of extremely exquisite and precious art. They vividly reproduce the superlative craftsmanship seen in the creation of everything in Nature yet embody what is refined rather than coarse, amplifying the ephemeral or unostentatious beauty of precious natural beings in life to the perfect zenith of art.

The appearance of Master Yee’s uniquely beautiful, unfathomably mysterious, and holy works of art have shattered mankind’s long-held understanding of artistic creations. The astonishing beauty of his artistic creations stirs once soul. His mysterious artistic masterpieces are the natural crystallization of his various astonishing talents, the natural outflow of his limitless Buddha-dharma wisdom and compassion. They also represent his very high moral achievement and the highest expression of kindness, generosity, and selflessness. It is the Master’s compassionate desire that everyone be able to attain this level as well. What you see in this exhibit is superb extraordinary art, profound knowledge, holy virtue, and more, truly from another realm.

The exhibition is free to the public.

Royal Academy Of Arts Has The First Fellow Awarded in Past More Than Two Hundred Years

On Feb. 10th, 2004 at the office of British Council in Washington DC Royal Academy Of Arts awarded Fellowship to Master Wan Ko Yee. Master Yee is a world-famous artist, a great Chinese painting artist, and the founder of Yun sculptures which are beyond natural beauty. The award of fellowship certificate and medal further confirmed Master’s extraordinary contribution to art of the whole world.

Royal Academy of Arts was founded by King George III in 1768. Up to now it has more than two hundred years history. It is a world-famous art institute. Many seasoned artists wish to pursue advanced study at this Academy. But this Academy admits only twenty extraordinary artists each year from all over the world to take courses for three years.

Professor Phillip King, President of Royal Academy Of Arts, announced during the award ceremony: Royal Academy Of Arts has a profound history. Today we are honored to award fellowship to the great artist and spiritual leader, Master Wan Ko Yee. This is a very important and honorable event of our Academy in the past more than two hundred years since our establishment. Therefore, Master Wan Ko Yee is the extraordinary art figure that we have been searching in more than two hundred years since our establishment and could not find until today.

This is tremendous blessing of Royal Academy Of Arts. Our Academy has one hundred Royal Academicians, but there was no one who in the past more than two hundred years was awarded the above-mentioned Fellow. This noble position is awarded to only the most distinguished artist in the world.

Sir David Manning, Ambassador of United Kingdom to the United States, accompanied by Professor Phillip King and Professor Brendan Neiland, Keeper of Royal Academy Of Arts, met with Master Wan Ko Yee and his wife Professor Yuhua Wang. Sir David Manning showed his respect for the achievement of Master Wan Ko Yee and congratulated him for receiving such an honor. Mr. Andy Mackay, Director of Culture Department, The British Embassy attended the award ceremony today.

Master’s Yun sculpting is a form of art that he successfully founded in the United States for the benefit of mankind. Through this unprecedented form of art, Master Wan Ko has created carvings that rival the beauty of nature’s creations.

Master Wan Ko Yee’s pioneering sculpture basically deals with the carving of stone material into the form of an oval boulder, which is then carved hollow. Inside this hole is a mysterious and changing world where wondrous mist is constantly circling upward, making the Master the only person who has been able to create mist within this type of carvings. His innovative technique also makes it currently impossible to duplicate his sculptures.
